Breaking Dry Spells

Arctic
Most principles of drawing are reliable and predictable. For instance, the more you draw, the better you draw. No big surprises.

However most artists I know all fall victim to unexplained dry spells - stretches of a couple days where you can't draw anything well to save your life. Then, as inexplicably as it comes on, it goes.

So I'm coming out of one thanks to the work in progress you see above. I'm hoping to finish it up and splash some color on it this week. Stay tuned!

Very nice. I love the texture of the hair and the fur. The lines of hair are so fine.

I definitely suffer from these spells. Though mine tend to last a bit longer than a few days.

aintshakespeare - thank you! you have no idea how happy it makes me to realize you recognized that was fur - I was worried it looked too, well, feather-y. Drawing fur is freakin' hard work - and I'm afraid coloring it is going to be even worse :(

I've been trying to get more detail in the hair I draw - I've been dissatisfied with the way I've historically done it. I picked this current way up from checking out Katie Beaton's drawings - google her and check out her history cartoons, well worth the time :)
