Killing Time

Been having to spend a lot of time at work calling different states regarding notices. That means a lot of time on hold. That also means - sketches to kill the time!

My book is ready for Fluke!

Jen and I put it together ourselves this afternoon. Here's the construction process:

We bought the extended stapler you see there at Staples today - it worked perfectly!

Here's my production assistant:

Despite now being published, yours truly isn't too high and mighty to get his hands dirty with the production work! Here I am folding covers:

And it's all ready to go!

Speaking of books, here's the one Jen put together for her art class! Sorry, one of a kind - no mass production!

Fluke

I'll be at Fluke in a couple weeks, attempting to trade a self-produced sketchbook for comics, food, and gas money.

I did the book layouts last night - it's going to be one of those old-school Xerox machine 'zine productions. I was involved in a couple 'zines in high school and forgot how much fun it is to put these together. Great times.

Anyhoo - if any of you are going to be at Fluke shoot me an email (Keath007@hotmail.com) and we can meet up. I'll be there with fellow Tampa talent Mike Maihack, Dan Boyd, and Lou Copeland, all of whom have real, official looking websites.

To keep things legit, here's a quick sketch:

Post 100!

Hey this is post 100! Unfortunately the painting I'm working on isn't done yet so it will be an anticlimactic sketch dump.

There's actually a good excuse for my not having the piece completed - I've been instated as a part of the team at Rock Sellout. So if my blatherings here about art isn't enough, you can go there and read my blatherings about music! You might also hip yourself to some great new bands. Rock Sellout has been my favorite music blog for a long time now and it's an honor to be asked to join.

In the meantime here are some sketches from the monthly Tampa Bay Cartoonist Collective meet and other random downtimes.

Sketchy 01
Random faces from a magazine.

Sketchy 02
From one of those gossip magazines Jen had lying around. It was a picture of Angelina Jolie but I wasn't trying to draw her (I was doing a rough sketch of the pose) - I was surprised when it came out looking somewhat like her. Usually I stink at that.

TBCC March 01
Warm-up sketch at the TBCC meet.

TBCC March 02
I like the expression on the girl's face.

TBCC March 03
This one's my favorite from the TBCC meet - might have to put this in Photoshop sometime for a quick paint.

Breaking Dry Spells

Arctic
Most principles of drawing are reliable and predictable. For instance, the more you draw, the better you draw. No big surprises.

However most artists I know all fall victim to unexplained dry spells - stretches of a couple days where you can't draw anything well to save your life. Then, as inexplicably as it comes on, it goes.

So I'm coming out of one thanks to the work in progress you see above. I'm hoping to finish it up and splash some color on it this week. Stay tuned!

Sketchbookin'

Doodle
Haven't done any fancy Photoshop painting in a while - just small doodles in my faithful sketchbook. Here's one of them.
