Defective Daddy

Moleskine 09 p6

The top part is a conversation Ceci and I had this morning. That's a pretty accurate representation of how I looked at work today - hunched over, exhausted, barely staying upright.

The text underneath it is from a discussion Sean and I were having about whether any worthy albums have been released this year thus far. I'm notoriously picky about Best Of lists - it's not unusual for my Best of the Year lists to only have one or two titles on it. I won't rehash the whole discussion - the basic gist was that I don't feel there's been an album released this year which will still be listened to this time next year, let alone ten, twenty, thirty years from now. It seems like everything is disposable these days. In a fit of crabbiness I declared "Nothing is essential anymore!" and liked the sound of it so much I added it here. There's a simple truth in that.

Sahara Reggae Zen

Moleskine 09 p1 and 2Moleskine 09 p3 and 4
With newborn baby amnesia rampant around the house, I've taken to carting around a pocket sized moleskine to jot down notes before I forget things I need to do. I've also snuck a few sketches in there, which you can see above. You can also see my notes on reggae - it's a genre I know very little about but the baby loves it so I'm educating myself! I consider it a perk of fatherhood.

The Sahara drawing was my attempt at Matthew McConaughey, which came out so-so at best. I do like the Zen Sweep drawing though - Zen monks will sweep as a meditation technique. I find it fascinating that practically every mundane activity can turn into an opportunity for spiritual growth if you just stay mindful of what you do.

Why I'm Gone And Other Fascinating Tales

Sorry for the unexplained absence, and thanks to everyone for checking in to make sure I'm fine. I'm doing great and hope to get some stuff online soon. The delay? Well, here's the reason.
